It's 5:45 AM and Laurie Clos, mother of six,
strains to complete her last few reps of 'bench push-ups'. After
the push-ups, she'll commence running stairs with the rest of
the "recruits". Before many of us wake up, these women
will have sweat their way through a challenging series of exercises;
combining resistance training with cardio in a motivating outdoor
environment.
Welcome to Temecula Adventure Boot Camp, the
hot new fitness program sweeping the valley. "Our emphasis
is on lowering body fat, focusing on body composition rather than
weight," explains Amy Bradley, the energetic trainer who
also happens to own the business. A graduate of Cal Poly and certified
by the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA)
as a Boot Camp and Personal Trainer, Amy gears her classes to
women of all ages and fitness levels. And if you haven't picked
up on it yet, TABC is for women only! Although all fitness levels
are welcome it's not a "one size fits all" program.
"You can't 'out-fit' Boot Camp, Amy will just challenge you
in a new way", says Marsi Blake, a repeat Boot Camp attendee.
"Sometimes I feel as if I just can't complete some of the
exercises - but I do. Amy knows how to push you to your limits."
Like Marsi, many clients repeat the month long
course while others use it as a "jumpstart" or training
tool to get over a plateau.
RaeAnn, a self proclaimed Boot Camp addict, is
now in her third consecutive enrollment. "I wasn't seeing
results from other exercise programs", she says. During her
first month of Boot Camp RaeAnn had a realization, "I hated
gyms because they are IN-doors. [When I work out] I want the smell
of honeysuckles - not sweat. I enjoy jogging around lakes - not
running in place on a treadmill."
Training courses last one month and are held
year round with classes beginning at 5:30AM and 9AM sharp. So
don't be late for a workout, it'll cost you 20 push-ups!
